To develop BGC into a reliable, profitable, and a pioneer gas company in Iraq aimed at harnessing Iraq’s natural resources, turning wasted gas into cleaner energy, supporting the country’s economy and social stability, whilst focusing on local content.

Our Mission

To become the long-standing foundation of Iraq’s energy strategy enabling the country to capture, treat and process larger quantities of gas (otherwise flared). Repurposing Iraq’s natural gas resources that play a critical role in power generation and liquid exports to boost Iraq’s economy and make a positive impact to the environment by reducing CO2 emissions.

Iraqization is at the heart of BGC’s strategy, our workforce consists of more than 5000 employees, whereby the 96% are Iraqi and the remaining 4% are expats.

Our aim to ensure that the organization can achieve effective delivery and success through its people. Accelerating local development is critical to BGC’s success, and we continue to focus on a blended learning model by growing and progressing our employees’ talent and skills through on-the-job training.

We continue to provide our staff opportunities to develop themselves in line with their individual development plans and as per the BGC skill requirements to support our business plans. The Learning and Development is the backbone of HR, working on advancing BGC staff to improved new levels by providing training in essential areas such as: Safety, Leadership, Business Skills, Operations Production & Maintenance, Engineering, and
Projects Support.

In addition, BGC employees undertake compulsory training in anti-bribery and corruption, our code of conduct. Respect for people is a key pillar in BGC regardless of ethnicity, religion, or gender.

BGC is an organization with strong values of responsibility and integrity. Our Code of Business Conduct and Ethics contains general guidelines for conducting business with the highest ethical standards. E&C is about doing the right thing when working in and with BG, we want to commit to work according to our values in an honest way, with integrity and respect for people.

BGC is committed to an environment where open and honest communication is the expectation, not the exception. We want you to feel comfortable in approaching your supervisor or management in instances where you believe violations of policies or standards have occurred.In situations where you prefer to place an anonymous report in confidence, you are encouraged to use this hotline – EthicsPoint, hosted by a third-party hotline provider. BGC is a 25-year joint venture between Iraq’s South Gas Company holding 51%, Shell 44% and Mitsubishi Corporation 5% established in 2013. BGC’s key operation is to gather, treat and process associated natural gas extracted from licensing round-1 oilfields: Rumaila, West Qurna 1 and Zubair turning natural gas into cleaner energy (otherwise flared).

BGC is an Iraqi company established to meet an Iraqi challenge, our strategic plan is aligned with the ambition of the Government of Iraq, to capture larger volumes of associated gas and reduce gas flaring while diversifying revenue streams. BGC’s intent is to grow and progress the Company to become the safest, most reliable, and highly performing Iraqi gas company, recognized for delivering the country’s vision harnessing Iraq’s gas resources into a catalyst for social stability and economy’s development.

Currently BGC captures more than 60% of associated gas produced by three oil fields. Since BGC’s commencement of operations in 2013, we accomplished significant achievements ramping up production from 250 mmscf/d to 950mmscf/d – that’s more than 3 times gas produced and enough to provide approximately 3.5 GW of electricity for millions of homes in Iraq.

In addition, BGC is one of the largest gas flaring reduction projects in the world. One of our key differentiators is reducing green gashouse emission and minimizing negative environmental impacts. From 2013 to date, BGC prevented more than 160 million tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere – that is equivalent to removing more than 3 million cars off the road.
