We are building a single, high performing team in which both national and non-national staff learn from each other, as each and every one of us strives to be as good as we can be.
This is underpinned by a development programme that has three defining principles: safety is the first priority of every single person working with and for BGC; over time, opportunities to learn and develop will be made available to all; development opportunities will be based on closing the gap between current performance and goals.
In addition BGC is building a local supply chain and adding further capabilities to domestic companies. This will bring new opportunities to Basrah and Iraq. From BGC’s inception of operations to the end of 2014, BGC awarded more than 1,000 purchase orders to Iraqi registered companies. We are working to ensure that over time more and more of the money BGC spends will go to local businesses helping them to build their skills, develop additional capabilities and create more jobs.
Already, through direct and indirect employment, and the procurement of local goods and services, we are injecting hundreds of millions of dollars per year into the local economy.
